3 frikkin’ delicious things to eat this week (because January is no time for a diet)

Things are dull enough without depriving yourself too.
If you, like us, have suddenly decided that New Year’s resolutions are best left until February this year, then congratulations; the first month of 2022 just got a whole lot less bleak.
When the sky is dull as dishwater and Omicron has scuppered your plans for a social life once again, one of the only ways to guarantee a bit of joy is to order it on a plate.
Here’s the good news: you live in the right county. Cork is heaving with foodie folk who are ready to tempt you out of the house in search of something delish for brunch, lunch or dinner.
Here are three things to sink your teeth into this week:
CRUNCH (BRUNCH AND THREE COCKTAILS) AT DWYERS
Lucky enough to have a midweek day off? Head for Washington Street between Monday, January 10th and Thursday, January 13th, 2022 and you can make a proper afternoon of it at Dwyers of Cork.
The bar is doing their Crunch offer all week; order any brunch dish of your choice and three (yea, three!) cocktails for a rather reasonable €27

THE CROWN PRINCE SANDWICH AT RON D’S
Foodies rave about the homemade sourdough sandwiches at Ron D’s food truck in Ballydehob. This Wednesday, January 12th, they reopen for the New Year with all the usual mouthwatering creations as well as The Crown Prince, a roasted pumpkin, pickled green tomatoes, mozzarella, rocket and dijonaisse veggie sandwich that can also be made vegan.
“It gets its name from being the best of the best when it comes to pumpkins.” say the Ron D’s crew.
“Super fudgy and rich this Crown Prince Pumpkin is seasoned with ground fennel seed, black pepper, salt and olive oil roasted in the oven, pureed, then layered with homemade pickled green tomatoes sourced from The Natural Growing Company, scamorza cheese from Toonsbridge, which is a delicious straw smoked cheese, and then it’s finished with a fresh crisp Land Cress from Lea Miklody.”
Worth going veggie for.

THE SPARE PARTS LATKE AT TAYLOR’S
Ever had a latke? A tasty, filling dish made from grated potatoes, onions, eggs and breadcrumbs, they’re just the thing for a warming lunch after a stroll along the Marina.
“We make ours by hand every morning and shallow fry them to make them crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.” say the crew at Cork’s premier latke hatch, Taylor’s Deli at the Marina Market.
The Spare Parts latke involves three warm potato pancakes, chopped bacon, a fried egg (runny, natch) and a splash of hot sauce.
