3 deliciously boozy hot drinks to pick up in town on your day off

Heading out for another frikkin’ walk?
If you live within 5km of Cork city, there are a number of spots where you can add some liquid zip to your weekly stroll.
Get-togethers might be banned, but hot booze to go is the ‘Level 5’ drink du jour and local pubs are going all out to ensure your cheeks remain rosy while you walk home, with various grogs, ports and whiskey combos bubbling away on the stove.
Interestingly, consuming alcohol in a public place in Ireland is not necessarily illegal – there’s no legislation prohibiting drinking alcohol outdoors.

While it is an offence to consume alcohol bought in a closed container (like a bottle or can) within 100 metres of the off-licence where it was sold, the law does not forbid a pub from allowing customers to bring drinks home.
Most of these boozy beverages are sold in a large or medium takeaway coffee cup in any case so, provided you’re on your best behaviour, nobody should be any the wiser.
Here are three to try this weekend:
1. Hunter’s Grog at Market Lane
Where: Oliver Plunkett Street
Wind your walk route over to Oliver Plunkett Street to pick up a takeaway Hunter’s Grog from their doorway hatch. A truly delicious blend of Jack Daniels whiskey, butterscotch liqueur, steamed apple juice, fresh lime and honey, it’s a drink and dessert all in one.
They’re also doing a mean White Russian and a Coconut Mojito from 12.30pm daily.

2. The Dan Duggan at Cask
Where: MacCurtain Street
If Cask on MacCurtain Street is within your 5km strolling limit, swing by and pick up a Dan Duggan: a warming blend of Longueville Apple Brandy, Buckfast, sea buckthorn and Beamish (served hot).
They’re also whipping up a Pumpkin Spice Pornstar Martini for Halloween so nab one of those to enjoy at home too. Cask is serving takeaway drinks on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 5pm-9pm, Fridays and Saturdays, 5pm to 10pm and Sundays 5pm-9pm.
3. Hot Port at Old Town Whiskey Bar at the Bodega
Where: Coal Quay
This old classic, a blend of ruby port, lemon honey and hot water, tastes even more festive when you enjoy it outdoors on a chilly evening. Light and fruity, it’s the ideal partner for a Sunday stroll down the quays.
They’re also doing a full list of cold cocktails, from espresso martinis to mojitos.
