A damp and breezy week ahead for Cork with fresher autumn weather on the way

It looks like summer is officially packing its bags across Cork.
Just in time for the big back-to-school rush, forecasters are warning of an unsettled, damp, and breezy week ahead.
If you were hoping for one final burst of sunshine to send off August, Met Éireann has bad news: widespread rain, low cloud, and misty conditions are set to dominate the Rebel County over the coming days.
Here is how the weather is shaping up for the start of September across Cork:
Today (Monday, August 31st)
Starting off with a few bright spells this morning, but don’t get too comfortable. Cloud will steadily build from the west as the day goes on, bringing the risk of scattered showers later this afternoon. Highs will hover between 15C and 18C in moderate westerly winds.
Tonight: Expect variable cloud with the odd stray shower sticking around. It’s set to turn increasingly damp and cloudy overnight with patchy rain and drizzle creeping in. Temperatures will drop to between 9C and 14C in a light to moderate southwesterly breeze.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, September 1st)
The official start of autumn and the back-to-school run is bringing classic Irish weather. Tuesday will be rather grey and cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing eastwards across Cork. Expect low cloud and mist in spots throughout the day, with rain turning heavier and far more persistent by evening. Highs of 16C to 18C.
Tuesday Night: A wet and blustery night is on the way as heavy rain moves up from the southwest. It will feel muggy and humid with lowest temperatures of 13C to 15C, accompanied by strong, gusty southwesterly winds along the coast. Rain should begin clearing Munster by morning.
Looking Ahead: The Rest Of The Week
Wednesday: A breezy day ahead, but things will improve slightly once early morning rain clears northeastwards. Expect a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers arriving from the southwest. It’ll feel noticeably warmer, with highs reaching 18C to 22C.
Thursday: Starting off with bright spells and a few light showers, but don’t leave the raincoat at home – widespread wet weather is expected to sweep in from the Atlantic later in the day and into the night. Highs of 17C to 21C.
The Weekend: Early indications suggest the unsettled pattern is here to stay right through the weekend, with temperatures taking a dip to usher in cooler, fresher autumn air.
