5 frankly unreal new things we’ve been eating in Cork this week

Cork’s food scene is absolutely showing off at the moment.
From a spicy Cholula Spice Bag putting a Mexican twist on an Irish icon, to beef stuffed into a buttery croissant like it was always meant to happen, and a Tongue Tied veggie sandwich stacked high with flavour — these are just a few of the things currently ruining all other lunch plans in Cork this week.
Come hungry. Try some of these…
Truffle Fries
Where: The Marina Market, Ballintemple
Sometimes all you need is a huge helping of carbs slathered in cheese to make everything right with the world. At Street Frites, one of the newest additions to the Marina Market, the Truffle Fries feature truffle oil, truffle salsa, a generous scattering of aged parmesan, and some creamy truffle mayo for good measure, all arranged over a cone of crispy hand-cut fries.
Divine. Just don’t tell your cardiologist.

The Royale with Cheese
Where: Lab 82, Lower Glanmire Road, Cork City (Thursday to Sunday, 9.30am)
It’s been a minute since a breakfast dish had us thinking about it days later — but Lab 82 just understood the assignment. The new Royale with Cheese might genuinely be the greatest thing ever to happen to a croissant; two beef patties paired with lettuce, crispy onion, cheese and house Mac Sauce sandwiched between two savoury pastries.
And if you’re leaning savoury, the Eggs Cornelius deserves a mention too: house-made cornbread stacked with poached eggs, streaky bacon, spicy hollandaise, plus a side of pico de gallo bringing the perfect kick.

The Fugazi
Where: Tongue Tied at The Black Market, Monahan Road
Who said veggie sambos are boring? Get yourself over to Tongue Tied at The Black Market and order the Fugazi, a hefty stack of pickles with tomatoes, crunchy greens, house sauces and crispy bits.

The Cholula Spice Bag
Where: Boojum, Winthrop Street, Cork City
Meet the Cholula Spice Bag — a spicy little love letter to the Irish cult classic, done the Mexican way. Think tender marinated chicken glazed with fiery Cholula heat and sweet honey, crispy golden patatas tossed in Mexican seasoning, plus sautéed peppers and onions bringing the crunch.
Fresh chillies and spring onions on top if you’re brave enough. Exactly what the weekend ordered.

The Egyptian Munch Box
Where: Cairo 2 Cork, The Fifth Quarter, Paul Street, Cork City
At just €14, this hefty meal involves chicken and beef schwarma, assorted veggies, rice, Egyptian mac’ and cheese, and freshly cooked fries.
If the weather’s nice, you can nab a table and tuck in right next to the food truck. If it’s raining, there’s no shame in spending half an hour savouring every bite alone in your car. Just sayin’.
