Cork’s soggy start to spring: Status Yellow – Rain warning from 6pm

We’re were spoiled with a blast of spring sunshine on Sunday.
But it’s business as usual in terms of the weather this week, with Met Éireann’s latest Status Yellow Rain warning set to kick in this evening at 6pm.
The warning for Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Waterford is valid from 6pm on Monday, February 2nd until noon on Tuesday, with forecasters warning that further heavy rain falling on saturated ground combined with high river levels and high tides will lead to localised flooding, river flooding and difficult travel conditions.
In the meantime it will be mostly cloudy today with just limited bright spells early on.
“While it will be largely dry for many with just some isolated patches of rain or drizzle, persistent rain, heavy at times, will arrive into the southwest in the late morning and remain for the day.” said a forecaster.
“Given the already saturated soils and high river levels, this rainfall may lead to flooding. Becoming breezy with easterly winds increasing moderate to fresh, stronger near coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.”
Expect heavy rain tonight and another cloudy day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle on Tuesday.
“The outbreaks will become less frequent through the day. Some clear spells will develop from the south later in the day. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.”
