You can borrow a banjo or a bodhrán for free from this Cork city instrument library

Curious about learning a new instrument?
If you’d like to try out a banjo or a bodhrán in the comfort of your own home before taking the plunge and buying one, you can take one away for a free trial at the Rory Gallagher Music Library, located in the City Library, Grand Parade.
“Library members can borrow a wide range of musical instruments for free, just like you borrow a book from the library.” said Kate Murphy, Library Staff Officer.
“With an active library membership, borrowers can take home a wide range of instruments, including guitars, violins, ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, bodhráns, keyboards and kids’ percussion packs. ”

Whether you’re a beginner trying a new hobby, a student preparing for lessons or a seasoned musician looking to experiment with something different, the Instrument Library makes it easier than ever to make music part of your life.
“We believe music should be accessible to everyone and our instrument collection gives people the chance to try something new without cost being a barrier.” Kate added.
“It’s one of the ways we continue to support creativity, learning and community engagement in Cork City. We also have a drum kit, piano and electric guitar that can be played in-house in the library.”
The Instrument Library is open to all active members of Cork City Libraries. Anyone who is not yet a member can join for free.
