A pop-up Thanksgiving Dinner offers Americans in Cork a taste of home

It’s not easy being away from home on big holidays.
But if you’re craving a hefty portion of nostalgia this Thanksgiving, a small team of Cork foodies are teaming up to serve it to you.
American expat Shannen Butler Keane, owner of Diva Bakery and Deli in Ballinspittle, is reviving her annual Thanksgiving Dinner in a new location this November.
There will be two sittings, one on Monday, November 24th and a second on Tuesday, November 25th, in the atmospheric setting of Prim’s Bookshop in Kinsale.
“And yes, as I’ve gotten older and wiser, the more I learn about one of the most popular celebrations that I grew up with, it was always my favourite, I definitely have conflicted feelings about Thanksgiving… as children we were- let’s face it- brainwashed- that the pilgrims and the natives had the most beautiful dinner together in peace. Now, we all know that’s a completely different story.” Shannen shared.
“However! What this meal is to me now, is truly getting together with those you love, and care about to sit down, break bread, chat, celebrate each others company and enjoy an epic meal.” she added.

“When I hosted Thanksgiving in my cafe, I had an American man fly back from Italy to have his meal with us after stumbling upon us whilst visiting Kinsale the year prior… and another customer tell me that our Thanksgiving dinner actually tasted like home. So this will be the real deal… my version of a meal that I grew up with and have now cooked myself for the last 37 years.”
Space is tight, so space is limited and tickets will be available online to purchase on Friday, October 17th.
