Heartwarming Cork film ‘Christy’ could be heading for an Oscar nomination

Cork might be getting another night at the Oscars.
Irish film ‘Christy’ could be heading for an Oscar nomination, according to the bookies.
The film is directed by Cork man Brendan Canty, best known for directing Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ music video, and stands at 5/1 to receive an Oscar nomination for best international film following rave reviews.
The story follows soon-to-turn-18 tearaway Christy, played by Daniel Power, trying to find his way in the world after a string of stays in foster homes, and a reunion with his estranged brother.
Members of iconic hip-hop group Kabin Crew and ‘Young Offenders’ star Chris Walley also feature in the film.

‘Christy’ already has a slew of awards under its belt, including Grand Prix winner at the Berlin International Film Festival and Best Irish Film at the Galway Film Fleadh. It is now showing in cinemas throughout the country.
“Christy is a heartwarming crowd pleaser and possibly one of the best Irish films in recent years.” said Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes.
“If the reviews and odds are anything to go by, we could be seeing this film at the Oscars!”
