Plans are underway for a ‘major artwork’ to brighten up the Dunkettle Interchange

This’ll be a nice treat during your commute.
Cork County Council, in partnership with Cork City Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), has announced a call for submissions for a landmark public art commission at one of Ireland’s busiest road junctions.
Visual artists and artist teams are invited to create proposals for a permanent sculpture as part of the Dunkettle Interchange Per Cent for Art Scheme.
Irish and international artists are invited to propose bold and artistically ambitious permanent sculptural works. The winning artwork will be selected through an open, two-stage competition.
The budget for the artwork is €375,000.

“This is a great opportunity for Cork to have a landmark artwork at a gateway to the City and County.” said Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll.
“For the successful artist, it means their work will be seen by thousands of people every day. An average of 95,000 vehicles use the junction daily and we look forward to seeing the artwork that will go alongside this impressive feat of engineering.”
The deadline for applications is noon on August 12th, 2025. Full details on how to apply are available here.
