Locals have launched a drive to upgrade the dated playground at The Lough

It’s a place that brings back happy memories for most of us.
But southside families say the playground at The Lough is in need of renovation and improvement to make it more accessible and engaging for little visitors.
“Instead of patching up the various holes in playground we need to properly renovate whilst also including something such as a sand pit area to make it more inclusive and appropriate for sensory seekers.” said Katie O’Regan, who has started a petition online.
“Local council funding is needed to refurbish and upgrade the Lough playground. This would not only rectify its current state of disrepair but also allow for the necessary modifications to be made so the playground is appropriate for all ages. By doing so, we can protect a valuable community asset, fostering inclusivity and promoting a sense of belonging.
“The Lough playground is more than just swings and slides. It is a site of countless shared memories and an important social node facilitating connections amongst community members.
“Neglecting this playground means failing our community and the generations to come.”
Local businesses are joining effort, with Bandon Road bar Rosie Maddison’s pledging the ticket sales from their weekly quiz for June, July and August towards the funding.
