Um. Bookies say the June bank holiday may be the ‘wettest on record’

It was a scorcher last year.
But this year’s June bank holiday looks set to be a washout in most parts of the country. In fact, the bookies say it’s gearing up to be the wettest on record.
Following a glorious May which saw some record-breaking warm weather, Met Éireann have indicated that rain is to be expected over the long weekend, with record amounts for the June bank holiday now at 2/1, according to Ladbrokes.
Here in Cork, it will be cloudy at first today with some patchy mist and drizzle clearing away later and sunny spells and mostly dry weather developing for the afternoon. Highest temperatures will range from 16 to 19 degrees.
Blustery and thundery
According to Met Éireann forecasters, Saturday will be a cloudy and rather unsettled day with a band of rain spreading east with strengthening southwesterly winds.
“The rain will be followed by a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees.” they added.
Saturday night will be blustery with heavy and possibly thundery showers in places.
Sunday is also looking quite breezy with a mix of sunshine and showers. Overcast and unsettled is the order of the day with highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.
Bank Holiday Monday looks set to be the soggiest of the lot; it will start out largely fine and dry with sunny spells but cloud will push in from the west later and becoming rather cloudy, wet and windy by the afternoon.
