New in town? Now there’s a class to help you achieve the perfect Cork accent

Ah, the Cork accent.
It’s one of the most distinctive and beloved accents in Ireland. If you’re in Cork, you’ll hear it everywhere, and it’s definitely a core part of our unique identity.
But if you’re not from these parts, perfecting your Cork sing-song lilt can be a challenge. Now, help is at hand.
Saoirse Garet, a local voice and accent coach is running an online Irish accent course starting on June 10th.
“I lecture in accents on the BA Theatre and Drama and BA Musical Theatre degrees at MTU Cork School of Music and will be running this course online, for performers but also for anyone who is curious about the science of accents.” Saoirse told us.

“One of the most important elements of accent learning is people; educating ourselves about the historical and cultural context of the speakers we’re emulating. And to do that we have to get specific!
“Over five weeks we’ll cover North Dublin, Northern Irish (specifically Belfast) and Cork. Don’t worry if you’re new to accent learning, we’ll also start with a session breaking down accent breakdowns. On our last week, you’ll get the chance to perform a little in one of the three accents and get some feedback.”
The course is open to all actors, performers and voice users, whether you want to expand your skill set or you’re just curious about how accents work.
Spaces are limited to 12 people (€250 for the five-week course) so email saoirse.212@gmail.com to book your spot.
