This foodie-favourite Cork farmer’s market is celebrating 25 years this weekend

Midleton’s legendary Farmers Market is turning the big two-five.
This isn’t just any old market. This is the O.G., the nana and granda of farmers markets in Ireland and they’re throwing a little party to celebrate how far they’ve come this weekend.
Back in 2000, when flip phones were still cool and avocados were a mystery to most of us, Darina Allen, Ted Murphy, the Chamber of Commerce, and a few brilliant local producers decided to link up locals with fresh grub. Their motto was simple, but still rings true: “Be a local hero, buy local food.”
And heroes we’ve been, haven’t we? Every Saturday, come rain, shine, or a full-on East Cork mizzle, the Fair Green in Midleton transforms into a proper buzzing hub.

Stalls bursting with everything from just-picked veggies and proper free-range meats to cakes that’ll make you weak at the knees, and flowers and handmade candles that’ll brighten any kitchen.
As Market Chair Barrie Tyner puts it, it’s not just about the spuds and the sourdough. It’s about “lifelong, meaningful relationships between the producers and co-producers – our customers, the good people of East Cork and beyond.”
So, this Saturday, May 31st, get yourself down there for the big 25th anniversary bash. They’re pulling out all the stops with nature-based activities, sure to keep the little ones entertained, face painting, balloon art, and tunes from the Barony Choir and the Midleton Concert Band.
Seriously, in a world gone mad for online shopping, Midleton Farmers Market is a shining example of how a community can thrive when it supports its own.
