It’s Cork’s most breathtaking beer garden (and it’s back open for summer ’25)

It just keeps getting better.
For a place so far off the beaten track, Ahakista never fails to attract summertime crowds seeking pints and a bite to eat.
Now its most famous attraction is ready and waiting for this year’s flip-flopped, sun-freckled visitors: The Ahakista Bar, fondly known as The Tin Pub and one of Ireland’s best beer gardens, has reopened for 2025.

A mere five-minute walk from the award-winning foodie favourite Ardundel’s by the Pier, The Tin Pub boasts its very own ocean views and heaps of rustic charm, all lovingly maintained year after year by Margaret Whooley and her son, Cormac.
Nestled on the scenic Sheep’s Head peninsula, this beloved local institution is a truly unique Irish bar. As its name suggests, it’s distinctive for its corrugated iron roof, a feature that has remained largely unchanged since its probable origins as a lodge for hotel workers in the 1940s.
Beyond its rustic charm, the pub is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and stunning views of Dunmanus Bay from its sprawling beer garden. They’ll also be doing food again this year, kicking off on Sundays in July and August.

Out the back of the bar run sloping lawns that dip into the bay, dotted with circular picnic tables and benches, which in turn are sheltered by tall, old trees and framed with carefully maintained flowerbeds and shrubbery.
It’s a place where time slows down, attracting both locals and tourists, including famous faces like Graham Norton, who is a regular and owns a home nearby.
As one of last year’s visitors shared on TripAdvisor: “Even if you only visit once your life will be better for it!”
