Show some love for local literary talent as ten Cork writers pitch their first page

Got a novel gathering dust under the bed?
If you’ve ever dreamt of seeing your name on a spine and your book on a shelf, then you’ll know that getting your work in front of the right eyeballs is half the battle.
That’s why the First Page Pitch at Cork World Book Fest’s Get Published Day has become a seriously unmissable gig – it’s basically the literary equivalent of speed dating, but with agents and your precious prose.
The ten brave souls who’ll be stepping up to the mic this year have just been announced.
Aislinn Brennan, Anthony O’Donovan, Colette Lynch, Daragh Fleming, Diarmuid Condon, Ger Morrissey, Isobel Tynan, Maeve Tynan, Margaret Gillies, and Teresa Doran are the names to watch, the ones who might just be the next big thing to come out of Cork.

These lucky ducks, whittled down from dozens of hopeful submissions, are about to experience the slightly terrifying, yet utterly invaluable, thrill of reading their opening pages to the actual gatekeepers of the publishing world: agents Simon Trewin and Nicky Lovick.
Guiding them through this literary lion’s den will be the ever-brilliant Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, the Get Published coordinator, ensuring everything runs smoothly at Cork City Library on Saturday, April 26th at 11:30am (all welcome to attend).
“Writers are hungry for any insights that will help them to improve their work and get their book to readers,” says Patricia Looney, of Cork City Libraries.
“That’s why this event is so important for us to include in our festival. We’re also proud that several writers have gone on to become published authors because of it.”
Last year, Lynda Marron actually landed a publishing deal after chatting with literary agent Polly Nolan at the very same event.
