Fermoy is the latest Cork town to ditch paper coffee cups

Change is brewing in Fermoy
The town is taking a big step toward sustainability with the official launch of the #ReuseOrReturn initiative this Saturday, April 12th.
The 2GoCup system has been rolling out across the town over the past two weeks, giving local businesses and customers a head start in shifting away from single-use coffee cups and embracing a more environmentally conscious option.
The system, already popular in towns across Cork, offers a practical and eco-friendly alternative to disposable cups by providing a reusable cup that can be returned to any participating outlet. Customers pay a small deposit of €2 for their cup, which is fully refundable upon return.
Eight independent cafes and food outlets in Fermoy, Bella Café, Cafe Ed, Coffee Dock, Grumpy Baristas, Hanna’s, Jeni’s Café, The Coffee House, and The Heron Café, are already signed up and fully equipped to offer the 2GoCup system.

Local retailers, businesses, community groups, clubs, secondary schools, and local Gardaí have all pledged their support.
“We’re thrilled to see customers in Fermoy embracing this #ReuseOrReturn initiative,” said Gráinne O’Connor, organiser of Together, Brewing Change in Fermoy.
“This is about creating long-term change by making it easy and convenient for people to do the right thing.”
The initiative will officially launch on Saturday, giving customers another opportunity to learn more about how the system works before a 20c surcharge will be implemented on all single use cups.
