Take a class in organic veggie gardening from someone who knows their onions

Feeling the urge to grow your own veggies?
If you’ve ever fantasised about stepping outside and plucking a ripe tomato or a crisp lettuce from your very own vegetable garden, then it’s time to finally stop dreaming and start digging.
This is about getting your hands in the dirt, learning from someone who knows their onions (literally), and cultivating a garden that actually yields more than just weeds.
Enter Roger Ahern’s Organic Vegetable Gardening for Improvers and Beginners course, which kicks off January 16th, 2025. Whether you’re the proud owner of a wilting herb pot or you’ve got a whole allotment at your disposal, this eight-month course is designed to have you producing crops in no time.

Roger, a plant biologist and the proud operator of Green Man’s Garden in Conna, Co. Cork, will guide you through the entire growing season.
From theory to practical, hands-on experience, he’ll make sure you don’t just grow your vegetables – you’ll grow them right. And if you’ve never had a gardening teacher who encourages you to make mistakes, Roger is your man.
What’s the Deal?
This course starts with a pair of two–hour theory sessions at the Richmond Revival, Fermoy (because, of course, you can’t have a vegetable garden without understanding the science behind it). After that, it’s all hands-on at Green Man’s Garden, where you’ll meet every second Saturday from 10am to 3pm.
Over the course of eight months, you’ll learn the good stuff – like assessing your garden’s potential, choosing the right plants, and dealing with those pesky pests and diseases. By the end of it, you’ll have a wealth of knowledge to actually get your vegetable patch growing.
The cost for a total of eight months of tuition is a very reasonable €250. You can book your spot here.
