All the biggest tickets to book now for Guinness Cork Jazz Festival ’24

By Yay Cork October 1, 2024October 3, 2024

Brought to you by the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.

Looking to jazz up your October plans?

Well, dust off your fedoras and break out your most experimental dance moves because the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival ’24 is back, and this year’s line-up is hotter than a saxophone solo on St Patrick’s Street.

With tickets already flying faster than you can say “improvised bebop,” we’ve done the hard work and rounded up all the biggest shows you need to book—before you end up stuck outside, trying to catch the trumpet riffs from a distant pub window.

Firstly, two shows are already sold out; Gregory Porter and Buena Vista All Stars at Cork Opera House.

To avoid further FOMO, these are the tickets to book now:

SEUN KUTI & EGYPT 80

Where: The Everyman, October 26th (9pm) and 27th (9.45pm)

Tickets here

Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 carry forward the revolutionary spirit of Afrobeat, blending political activism with electrifying rhythms inherited from Seun’s father, Fela Kuti’s legendary legacy.

DE LA SOUL & SPECIAL GUEST

Where: Cork Opera House, October 27th (6.30pm)

Tickets here

De La Soul redefined hip-hop with their genre-bending sound and innovative wordplay, shaping the alternative rap movement of the late ’80s and ’90s. With their influential debut 3 Feet High and Rising and a career spanning over three decades, they remain cultural icons whose legacy continues to resonate in the hip-hop world. Three? That’s the magic number.

WE ALMOST LOST DETROIT – BRIAN JACKSON AND SPECIAL GUESTS

Where: Cork Opera House, October 23rd (7pm)

Tickets here

Brian Jackson, the legendary pianist and composer, made waves alongside Gil Scott-Heron, laying the groundwork for neo-soul and modern hip-hop. His socially charged sound has left a lasting mark on icons like Tupac, Common, and Kendrick Lamar.

TODD TERJE

Where: Cyprus Avenue, October 24th (11pm)

Tickets here

Fresh outta’ Norway, Todd Terje, a rising star in dance music, has made waves with his unique blend of Euro sounds, deep funk, and Latin jazz. Tracks like Eurodans and his edit of Michael Jackson’s Can’t Help It have earned him widespread acclaim.

HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE

Where: Cyrus Avenue, October 26th (7pm) and 27th (7pm)

Tickets here

Raised on Chicago’s South Side and rooted in musical tradition, the group’s explosive performances have earned them a global following and collaborations with icons like Gorillaz and Prince. They never fail to show the audience a good time.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble also presents HuNaFaa, a special show alongside their mother Aquilla Sadalla, at 2pm at the same venue on October 26th.

LE BOOM

Where: Cyprus Avenue, October 27th (2pm)

Tickets here

The first night is sold out but there are some tickets left for Le Boom’s October 27th daytime date at Cyrus Avenue. Hailing from Navan, Le Boom are two brothers making high-energy dance music. Their sound has been described as “4am chats with your mates”.

ORCHESTRA BAOBAB

Where: The Everyman, October 27th (5.30pm)

Tickets here

Orchestra Baobab’s unique blend of Afro-Cuban, international pop, and traditional Griot music remains as vibrant as ever. 50 ANS, the first single from their upcoming album, marks the band’s 50th anniversary.

New venue alert

The Kino on Washington Street in Cork City has been added as a new venue in partnership with ChoiceCuts, focusing on emerging Irish talent like The X Collective, Projective and DeCarteret, and Cooks But We’re Chefs and Rachael Mae Hannon. Kean Kavanagh plays the Kino on Sunday 27th, with support from Amy Michelle, followed by a Soft Boy Records Club Night.

Across town, Tom Keating presents Flash Harry: A Celebration of Queen, Mad Ferritt – The Definitive Oasis Tribute, and Jenny Greene & Special Guests, along with Mack Fleetwood at Cork City Hall.

See Guinnesscorkjazz.com for more or follow the festival on @guinnesscorkjazz #GuinnessCorkJazz. The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is supported by Diageo, Fáilte Ireland, Cork City Council and Cork Airport.
