Status Yellow Wind alert: Met Éireann issues safety advice for Friday morning

Storm Lillian will be making her presence felt overnight.
And while the UK will bear the brunt of the bad weather over the coming 24 hours, Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow – Wind warning for Munster, Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Kildare, and Dublin.
The alert kicks in at midnight tonight and will remain in place until Friday morning at 6am, with unseasonably strong and gusty south-to-southwest winds veering west to northwest and a “continuing risk of coastal flooding due to very high tides”.
Potential impacts include some fallen trees, debris on the roads, power outages and wave over-topping.
Forecaster Brandon Creagh said: “The centre of the low pressure system is expected to track across the middle of the country tonight, bringing unseasonably strong and gusty south to southwest winds which will veer west to northwest as the system tracks eastwards.

“The strongest of the winds will occur overnight but with the trees still in full leaf, people need to be careful of debris or branches on the roads tomorrow morning.”
Why was the name “Lilian” chosen?
Storm Lilian is named after Lilian Bland, who was an Anglo-Irish journalist and pioneer aviator. Bland was the first woman in Ireland to build and fly an aircraft, and quite possibly the world’s first woman to build her own airplane, the Bland Mayfly.
