This is your chance to sail a 36ft yacht past Spike Island

Calling all landlubbers with a grá for the high seas.
Ever dreamt of setting sail on a proper yacht and feeling the ocean spray on your face? Well, this June, you can do just that aboard the SailCork flagship the Holy Grounder, a 36ft Beneteau, with the legendary skipper Eddie English at the helm.
Yep, as part of Cork Harbour Festival this year, SailCork is offering epic half-day and full-day adventures to yachting newbies. You’ll learn the ropes (literally!) from Eddie himself, a Cork Harbour legend who’s been sailing these waters for decades.

Here’s the craic: you’ll get to hoist the sails, steer the boat (under Eddie’s watchful eye, of course), and discover the secrets of making this beauty glide across the waves. All while soaking up the stunning sights of Cork Harbour. Think Cobh Cathedral, the colourful town of Cobh itself, Spike Island, and even Haulbowline, home to the Irish Navy.
Anyone over 14 can join the fun; you only need low to moderate fitness. Just be sure to bring a waterproof jacket and trousers, along with some runners or flat shoes for good grip on deck. Safety briefing and a life jacket are all sorted too.
These voyages set sail on June 1st and 4th, with half-day options (€90) running from 2pm-5pm and full-day adventures (€175) lasting from 10am to 5pm. Spaces are limited, so book your spot on the SailCork website pronto.
This year’s Harbour Festival offers over 80 events in a dozen beautiful locations across Cork City and Cork Harbour, including Myrtleville, Cobh, Crosshaven, Whitegate, Ringaskiddy, Fountainstown, Spike Island, East Ferry, Monkstown, and city locations such as Marina Park, Cork City Marina, Lee Fields, Blackrock, Crawford Art Gallery, Lapp’s Quay and Nano Nagle Place.
