Here’s why you’ll be seeing a lot more dandelions around Cork this summer

Forget the manicured lawns.
Cork City Council is letting loose a bit this year to help out our buzzing buddies – the bees.
As part of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, some green spaces around the city will be getting the mow-over, but in reverse; less mowing, more wildflowers.
So, why the change? Well, dandelions and other wildflowers aren’t just there to make wishes on. They’re a tasty treat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators who are super important for our ecosystem. By letting these fellas flourish, we’re giving them a bit of a buffet to keep them happy and healthy.

Cork’s open areas, parks and green spots won’t be turning into jungles but you might see some patches looking a little more, well, wildflower-y.
And hey, if you see a little dandelion popping up in the cracks on the footpath, leave it be; it might just be a tiny dinner for a busy bee.
