Cork Airport is preparing for an influx of 50,000 passengers over St Paddy’s weekend

By Yay Cork March 13, 2024March 12, 2024

This Friday is set to be the busiest day.

Cork Airport is expecting over 50,000 passengers across the St. Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend.

Over the coming days, Cork Airport will play host to a feast of traditional Irish music and dance as local and regional music groups take to the specially decorated St. Patrick’s Weekend stage to entertain our departing and arriving passengers.

The Cheltenham Racing Festival has already seen plenty of punters flying out to the UK in big numbers, with more expected to travel between now and Friday. To cater for increased demand, both Ryanair and Aer Lingus Regional will operate additional services to Birmingham and Bristol.

“Our passenger numbers have grown 20% in the year-to-date, versus the same period last year,” said Managing Director at Cork Airport, Niall MacCarthy.

“The message about the friendliness and ease of Cork Airport is spreading further afield and we are working to make this weekend a friendly, safe, smooth, and welcoming weekend at Cork Airport.

“This St. Patrick’s weekend, we will be teaming up with our friends in Comhaltas, the John Lonergan Academy of Irish Dancing, soloist Pat Kelleher, Music Generation Laois Harp Ensemble to ensure that our national music and dance are on show to welcome visitors and locals alike home to Ireland.”

Big summer ahead

Cork Airport’s 2024 Summer Schedule will commence at the end of this month with 48 routes to destinations across the UK, Spain, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, and Greece.

Seven scheduled airlines will operate services from Cork Airport in 2024 – Ryanair, Aer Lingus, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, SWISS International Air Lines, and Emerald Airlines (operating under the Aer Lingus Regional brand). TUI will also operate charter services to popular sun destinations.

With a busy weekend in store, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time.
