Meet new mates on a monthly Queer Bike Rides cycle around Cork

New in town?
Whether you’re just moved to Cork or you’re keen to meet more likeminded friends locally, a new cycling group is inviting queer folk to join them on a regular cycle around the city.
Members of Queer Bike Rides Cork have been exploring Cork’s greenways together on regular meet-ups, kicking back for coffees and chats afterwards.
The group was started by Janine Boertjes and Jay Sullivan, who were inspired by other queer cycling groups such as DC Queer Bike Rides.
“I love cycling and wanted to share this love with others in the queer community.” Janine told Yay Cork.
“Cycling is a great way to explore your local area, stay fit, and make friends. The club creates a welcoming environment to meet like-minded people!”

“We organise leisurely cycles once per month, where we follow the greenway out to Passage West. The distance is around 20 km, and we have a coffee stop at the halfway point. In the summer we hope to organise extra rides that are a bit longer and maybe even some out-of-town spins!”
Cycles will be posted on Instagram @QBRCork and you can email QBRCork@gmail.com to receive updates.
“I found out about Cycling Ireland’s community bike rides and cycle leader training last year and since then it’s been great to find Janine and others up for creating an LGTB /queer cycling group in Cork.” added Jay.
“I’m excited about organising cycles that are easy and accessible for people who’ve not done much cycling before. It’s a great way to get outdoors by the water for a few hours and meet new people.”
Interested? The next cycle will likely be on Sunday, April 14th.
