New Year, new drinks order- four Cork cafés where you can sip something different

Everyone is making a change.
But sometimes we can get a little too ambitious in what we want to achieve overnight… or even within the first month of 2024.
And while most people think giving things up is the way to go, studies show that adding, not subtracting, from your life is more likely to make you happy.
So while many people are trying to punish themselves for indulging a little too much over silly season, we reckon it’s better to shake things up a bit and try new things instead of limiting ourselves. There’s a long winter ahead of us yet… and the summer bod can wait.
So don’t worry about cutting calories this January. Instead, head to one of these fine establishments and try something completely new.
1. Turkish coffee in Blues
We’re not saying we’ve been doing coffee wrong all this time, but once you taste the Turkish coffee at Blues Café on French Church Street, you will wonder why you ever take your caffeine and other way.
Turkish coffees are made using a cezve (ibrik), sugar to taste, and coffee, stirring to blend it. It is served in espresso-sized cups and is sweet to the taste.

2. Tea Kettle at Izz Cafe
As well as Palestinian coffee and other barista coffees, you can also try a tea kettle at Izz Cafe on George’s Quay.
The tea comes in sage and mint flavours using Palestinian sources herbs. If you’re feeling like treating yourself, you can pair it with a semolina cake or some stuffed coated dates for good measure.

3. Mint Infused Bean & Goose Hot Chocolate
Leesiders love a good afternoon date in Good Day Deli and this mint-infused Bean & Goose hot chocolate really makes it all the sweeter.
This particular combination is very balanced and fresh-tasting. You can also opt for the Good Day Deli chai tea if you’re looking for something a bit lighter.

4. A Lovely Lemon ‘Lattea’ at The Collector
Down in Kinsale, the Collector crew invites weary January visitors to “slow down with Lovely Lemon”.
The drink is one of several ‘latteas’ including wellness sips made with pure botanicals and all-natural flavours, without caffeine or sugar.
They describe it as “rejuvenating with a healthy boost” and it’s wonderful hot or chilled.
