Eco’s legendary sauces have hit the shelves of a Northside shop

Fans will be weak for these.
The legendary Eco curry and satay sauce pots have landed at McSweeney’s shop on Gardiner’s Hill, marking a groundbreaking moment and making the store the first-ever stockists of Eco’s famed flavours.
With Eco’s owner David Halpin Jnr living in the area, and McSweeneys being his local shop, it was the perfect launchpad for this saucy revolution.
Partnering with the indomitable Regina of McSweeney’s, a stalwart supporter of local suppliers, the collaboration is a testament to the strong community spirit that defines Cork.

Eco, which has spots in Douglas, Marina Market and at Café Eco on Winthrop Street, began selling their sauces in the lockdown days of 2020.
Offering a takeaway service from their main Douglas restaurant from Thursday to Sunday, the idea to bring a taste of Eco into homes sparked the sauce sensation. Building a cult following since, Eco’s decision to now venture into local shops is a natural evolution, but the overwhelming interest has pleasantly surprised them.
Speaking to Yay Cork, the Eco owners said, “Everyone has been so helpful in suggesting spots they might like to see us stocked. They’ve taken the guesswork out of it for us. We’re very lucky to have such a loyal customer base.”
Given the limited fridge space at McSweeney’s, eager sauce enthusiasts are advised to send a direct message to Eco’s Facebook or Instagram a day in advance for orders over two pots. Sauces are priced at €6 each with two servings per pot.
The recipe for Eco’s curry sauce traces back to Halpin’s restaurant before the birth of Eco in the late ’70s. And here’s the clincher – both sauces are not just delicious; they’re also dairy and gluten-free, making them a feast for all.
