The Boatyard Cobh has released a statement explaining its ‘temporary closure’

By Yay Cork November 17, 2023November 17, 2023

It’s become a popular fixture for foodies and families.

But The Boatyard Cobh, the outdoor shipping container market near the ferry, has announced a “temporary closure” following legal enforcement due to a pending planning permission application.

“This unforeseen development has had a profound impact on the individual small businesses within The Boatyard, our dedicated staff, and the loyal customers who have made The Boatyard a part of their routine.” the business owner, Cobh native Rob Coughlan said in a statement.

“While our doors are closed, we want to assure our community that we are actively engaging with Cork County Council to address the planning permission concerns. We are committed to resolving this matter as soon as possible, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers, vendors, and the community during this challenging time.”

“The Boatyard Cobh has always been more than just a marketplace; it is a gathering place, a source of livelihood for local entrepreneurs, and a space where families create lasting memories. We understand the impact of this closure on the lives of our vendors, staff, and customers, and we share in the disappointment caused by this temporary setback.”

Coughlan has requested the support of Cork County Council to expedite the resolution of the planning permission application.

“The Boatyard is an integral part of the community, and with your assistance, we can resume providing a valuable and cherished space for our customers and local businesses. We eagerly look forward to working collaboratively to find a solution that benefits all.” he added.

“We will continue to keep our community updated on the progress toward reopening hopefully in the near future.”
