This witchy bar is hosting a Mythical Art Exhibition with some amazing artists

By Christina Collins September 3, 2023September 1, 2023

Like a bit of art with your pint?

They say that the Formorians were a supernatural race of beings that walked the hills and valleys of ancient Ireland long before the Celts arrived on these shores.

These giants were described as being skilled in sorcery and magic, using their powers to cause chaos, havoc, and destruction. And if you have a bit of that energy in you, we have just the thing.

‘Formorians’ is an art exhibition that brings together a collection of artists that draw inspiration from the myths, folklore, and heritage of Irish culture.

To celebrate this new wave of contemporary artists, Rosie Maddison will host the first ‘Formorians’ art exhibition on Friday, September 22nd in their witchy Bandon Road pub.

Here are just some of the artists whose work will be featured on the night:

  1. Diabhal

Diabhal, which in Irish means “devil” takes inspiration from modern pop and hip-hop culture and juxtaposes this with Irish culture, combining elements from ancient Ireland and modern-day Ireland.

2. Queen of Dogshite

Queen of Dogshite aka Aoife Tierney paints mad mythical fellas and creatures having a great time. “We’ve a lovely divilment in this country, we should be proud of and we should protect it,” said Aoife. “We’re wild and the powers that be never like it… so here’s to celebrating it.”

3. Ciaraíoch

Freelance cartoonist, illustrator, and crow mother Ciara Kenny will also be showcasing her work at Rosie’s. Ciara creates drawings, paintings, and linocut prints influenced by Irish folklore, history, wildlife, feminism, and social justice.

Art by multi-disciplinary artist Lisa Harris, Dabulga, New Zealand born writer and photographer Claire Loader, comedic storyteller Hugh Cooney and author and artist Seán Fitzgerald will also be on display, so there will be plenty of opportunities to get your hands on some special original artwork.

Several of the artists will be in attendance on the night to chat with attendees about their work, and there will be live music throughout the evening to really get you ready for a bit of divilment.

Entry is free and the exhibition will take place from 5pm onwards on Friday, September 22nd in Rosie Maddison’s on Bandon Road. Keep an eye on Rosie’s socials for more updates.
