What a way to go.

The southern Indian street food restaurant Iyer’s has closed its Pope’s Quay kitchen after ten years in business, but not before fans of the veggie spot queued down the street for one last bite on Saturday.

The family-run restaurant opened its doors for one more day and donated the proceeds to the Sexual Violence Centre.

“Thanks to all of you who came in great numbers yesterday for your last meal at Iyer’s and helped us raise thousands for the amazing work @SVCCork do.” the family posted on Twitter.

“Apologies for the long wait time and sorry if we were sold out of everything by the time you arrived.”

“We are totally humbled by your love.”

A new chapter

As he bid farewell to the restaurant, Gautham Iyer encouraged readers to continue supporting local businesses: “Cherish the diversity of culinary experiences Cork City has to offer, and remember that behind every restaurant is a passionate team striving to create unforgettable moments for you and your loved ones.”

It’s not all sad news however, it seems the family behind the popular vegetarian eatery already has plans for a new venture:

“While it saddens us to close this chapter, we choose to focus on the road ahead, where we can put to use our lifelong passion and expertise in healing herbs and Ayurveda to create an even more holistic experience,” Gautham revealed.

“We are excited to imagine the future and all the possibilities it holds.”
