This will be one to remember.

A magical night of classical music inspired by the night sky will be performed at Blackrock Castle Observatory in early March.

It’s all part of the eighth Ortús Chamber Music Festival, which runs from February 26th to March 5th in venues around Cork City and County, featuring eight of the world’s most celebrated classical musicians.

On Thursday, March 2nd at 7.30pm, Blackrock Castle will be filled with the sound of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata 1st movement arranged for String Sextet performed by Johannes Marmen and Eoin Ducrot (violin), Bryony Gibson-Cornish and Fiachra De hOra (viola) and Peggy Nolan and Sinéad O’Halloran (cello).

Next up it’s Paul Coletti’s Moonlight Journey for 2 Violas followed by Hungarian composer György Ligeti’s String Quartet No. 1, Métamorphoses Nocturnes performed by the Marmen Quartet.

Committed to highlighting the achievements of Irish musicians and composers on the world stage, Ortús has invited over 40 musicians to Cork and programmed more than 85 musical works.

This year’s festival will also feature performances in St Brendan’s Church, Bantry, UCC Aula Maxima, MTU Cork School of Music, MYPlace Midleton, Sea Church Ballycotton, and St. Peter’s on North Main Street.
