Flood Warning: You might want to avoid parking in these city spots today

By Yay Cork October 26, 2022October 26, 2022

Better safe than sorry.

Cork City Council has warned motorists to avoid parking in a number of riverside spots, with a period of high astronomical spring tides due later today, Wednesday, as well as tomorrow morning and evening.

“It is likely that some roads and parking areas along low-lying quays in the city centre may suffer localised flooding during high tides; i.e. Morrison’s Quay, Fr Matthew Quay, Trinity Bridge, Union Quay, Sharman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay, Frenche’s Quay, Proby’s Quay, Crosses Green, Lavitt’s Quay, Kyrl’s Quay and potentially reaching South Terrace, Rutland Street, Sawmill Street and South Mall.” a spokesperson said.

High tide times of note are Wednesday evening at 6:56pm, Thursday morning at 7:17am and Thursday evening at 7:34pm.

“Motorists in these areas are advised to proceed with caution.”

“As forecasted weather and tidal conditions are variable at this time, Cork City Council is continuing to monitor the situation closely; please stay alert for further updates, should forecast conditions change.”
