Some of Ireland’s finest legal minds are gathering in Cork for an historic event

It’s one of the largest ever gatherings of Ireland’s legal eagles.
Past and present Supreme and High Court judges will join speakers including former President Mary McAleese, Dr Rhona Mahony, Senator David Norris, Colm O’Gorman and Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly in Cork this weekend at the first Intervarsity Law Summit.
The historic first joint event held by seven of Ireland’s Universities and their associated law societies will be hosted by the UCC Law Society at Cork’s Rochestown Park Hotel from Friday until Sunday.
A total of 13 leading law firms, the Bar Council, and the Law Society of Ireland will be represented at the event as sponsors, with a weekend of networking, competitions, speeches from prominent figures, and a gala ball planned for attendees.
The Summit will also play host to the national finals of the Moot and Mock Trial competitions – the first time all seven law schools based at University College Cork, Dublin City University, Maynooth University, NUI Galway, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and the University of Limerick compete against each other to crown a national champion.
Presiding over the competitions are current or former Supreme Court Justices Mr Gerard Hogan, Ms Justice Marie Baker, Mr Justice John MacMenamin and Mr Justice Liam McKechnie, as well as President of the High Court Ms Justice Mary Irvine and Mr Justice David Keane.
