Cork asylum seeker to stage hunger strike outside Leinster House

Nadim Hussain is fighting to remain in Ireland.
A protest is scheduled to take place outside Leinster House later today (October 14th), in support of a Cork-based asylum seeker living in direct provision.
Nadim Hussain, an Indian man whose parents were both killed in the West Bengal riots of 2018, is facing deportation from Ireland. Mr. Hussain has shared a letter he received from the International Protection Appeals Tribunal which details the tribunals decision to recommend against granting him the status of refugee.
Speaking to the Irish Examiner about the deaths of his parents, Mr. Hussain said: “That’s the reason I am protesting and begging and pleading. I want leave to remain. I don’t want to go to my country.” A final decision on whether or not to order Mr. Hussain’s deportation has not yet been made.
Resident at the Kinsale Road direct provision centre, Mr. Hussain has vowed that he will turn to hunger strike if he cannot get a reply from the government.
Cork North-Central TD Mick Barry has said he will be in attendance at the protest, saying “Nadim should be granted leave to remain in this country. He faces real danger if deported to India. Looking forward to meeting him later today.”
