Smashing pumpkins or bad apples? 5 new autumnal cocktails to try at Cask

By Christina Collins October 8, 2021October 4, 2021

There’s a new cocktail menu at Cask.

Always ones to surprise and delight, the crew have upped their game once more to bring the people of Cork a tantalising new selection of drinks celebrating autumnal flavours.

As always, the cocktails are the result of some serious collaborations and creativity. Cask teamed up with distilleries, venues and producers to create the new menu, bringing everything to life with elegant illustrations by artist Simona Lidziute, who also happens to be a bartender at the award-winning bar.

Here are our five top picks to try first:

Rose Hips Don’t Lie

This cocktail is made with Maharani gin from the distillery in the old Ford factory. Rosehip was placed into a small still at the distillery to produce the pure rosehip distillate that is used in the Cask cocktail – fancy.

Maharani is teamed with rosehip distillate, an infusion concocted between the two teams and topped with Mockie Ah lime.

Notes on the menu let you know that it has a clean/ripe taste to give you an idea of what to expect.

‘Your Mother was a Hamster and your Father Smelt of Elderberries’

This one had us falling off our chairs, but with laughter. We’re sober, we swear.

The tequila-based cocktail is made with elderberry, vida mezcal, chilli and chocolate, which gives you a ‘fiery/effervescent’ taste. A fun addition is added to the menu in the form of a QR code, which patrons must scan to find out the origin of this brew’s name.

Smashing Pumpkins

With Halloween just around the corner, this is sure to be a popular choice for customers at Cask. Smashing Pumpkins is made with Glendalough wild botanical gin, Aperol, spiced pumpkin, and rosé cava. Notes for this cocktail tell you it’s ‘autumnal/quaffable’.

We quite agree.

Bad Apple

Whilst we’re waiting for Tony to tell us when we can resume bobbing for apples, the Bad Apple cocktail in Cask will surely keep us occupied and entertained. Made with a Method and Madness Gin base, the recipe calls for hawthorn berry, an in-house concoction of Caskavit, tansy, stones ginger wine and Mayfield pilsner.

Carrot Soup

A simple, light, ‘moreish’ cocktail made with Dingle Vodka, White Port and carrot.  Carrot Soup is just the autumn warmer we need before we get stuck into the winter warmers.

How adorable is that carrot?
