Cork has one of lowest rates of Covid in Ireland according to latest data

Cork has the third-lowest rate of Covid in Ireland.
According to HPSC’s most recent interim 14-day report on cases uploaded to the COVID Care Tracker, Cork remains one of the safest counties in Ireland with regards to Covid.
The data, which was gathered between June 22nd and midnight on Monday, July 5th, suggests that there have been only 218 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Cork during that time. This gives Cork the third-lowest rate of Covid in Ireland, ahead of only Leitrim and Carlow.
Cork is a major outlier towards the bottom of the table,
Donegal’s rate remains the worst in the country, with 547 cases in the last fortnight, representing 0.34% of the entire Donegal population. By contrast, Cork’s cases in the last two weeks make up just 0.04% of the Rebel County population.
In terms of raw numbers, Dublin has the highest number of cases at 2,209. However, this represents a smaller incidence per 100,000 than is currently troubling the likes of Waterford, Roscommon, Sligo and Limerick.
Cork’s curve throughout the two-week period remained not just flat, but in fact declined as national cases increased due to the prevalence of the Delta variant now on our shores.
Other data from the latest report suggests that the gender split of recent cases is almost entirely even, with a median case-age of 28 years – hammering home the drastic change in age-profile of people now most likely to be affected by Covid. The full report can be accessed here.
