‘Cautious optimism’ as hotels reopen to guests for the first time since Christmas

Ireland’s hotels can finally reopen today, June 2nd, meaning that spa breaks and gourmet getaways are a go for the warm weeks ahead.

According to the Government guidelines, all accommodation services (hotels, B&Bs, hostels and self-catering) are now permitted to welcome overnight guests, while outdoor dining services for restaurants, cafes, and pubs will recommence from Monday, June 7th.

“There is now cause for cautious optimism as the rollout of the vaccination programme gathers pace,” said Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD.

“The reopening of the tourism and hospitality sector represents a further important step in the COVID-19 Resilience and Recovery Plan. Accommodation and restaurants along with pubs and bars will be able to reopen their doors after this difficult period of enforced closure. I know that all tourism and hospitality businesses will extend a warm Céad Míle Fáilte to their guests and I encourage people to keep discovering the delights our country has to offer.

“This will drive much needed and sustained footfall to local tourism and hospitality businesses as they reopen over the coming weeks.

Welcome back, Cork

At Cork’s Montenotte Hotel, the team is ready to welcome a slew of summer staycationers in search of alfresco cocktails, fun dinners and spa treatments.

“There is no doubt our industry has taken an enormous hit over the past year,” said Brian Bowler, General Manager.

“At The Montenotte, we made the decision to face these challenges early on and ensure that when we return, we would come back better than ever. We have spent this time wisely, talking to our customers, seeing what they would like from us when things reopened, investing in developing the team and strengthening our offering.”

Meanwhile, management at Fota Island Resort and The Kingsley Hotel & Spa in Cork are making further additions to their safety procedures and protocols by introducing in-house staff Covid-19 antigen testing.

“We believe that this a valuable tool for hospitality as we re-open giving management and staff across both hotels unmeasurable confidence in returning to the workplace and running a safe business throughout this pandemic,” said Charlie Dineen, HR manager for both hotels.
