‘We’re back!’: 5 Cork businesses with some good news to share this week

By Yay Cork March 4, 2021March 4, 2021

There’s a hint of optimism in the air this week.

Maybe it’s the dry weather or the cheery daffodils popping up in parks and flower beds, but it finally feels like it might be okay to make some tentative plans for post-lockdown living later in spring.

The positive vibes are coming thick and fast from Cork’s business community and we are ready for it.

It’s early days of course, but behind the scenes, hotels, restaurants and cafés are pivoting, updating, changing things up, gathering their staff and looking towards a summer of outdoor dining, takeaway picnics and maybe even a staycation or two.

Here are five good news stories to put some pep in your step today:

1. NASH 19 IS HIRING

Over on Princes Street, city eatery Nash 19 is hiring for a number of roles, with plans to reopen in mid-May, restrictions permitting.

The restaurant, opened by Claire Nash in 1992, will be making full use of the ‘Eat on the Street’ project, which saw the newly pedestrianised Princes Street transformed into an outdoor dining area last summer.

The business is on the hunt for a sous chef, grill chef, barista, sommelier and waiting staff, so email info@nash19.com or pop your CV in the post to Nash19, Princes Street, Cork City if you’re interested.

2. A BIG YEAR BEGINS AT MACROOM’S CASTLE HOTEL

Celebrating 70 years in business this year, the Buckley family has announced that their Castle Hotel in Macroom will re-open on March 22nd, 2021 for essential accommodation purposes and takeaway service from both Dan Buckley’s Bar and The Next Door Café.

‘The Buckley family and staff are extremely excited to open our doors again on Monday, March 22nd.” said third-generation hotelier Rory Buckley.

“Having been closed since Christmas Eve, we hope this is the first step in getting fully open and having all our team back at work in the coming months.”

3. THE GALLERY REOPENS IN WILTON

Over at Wilton Shopping Centre, The Gallery Restaurant has reopened for takeaway meals and snacks, so you can pick up lunch after you do the grocery run.

The restaurant will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am – 5pm, with a full menu (breakfast, lunches, toasties and fresh sandwiches) available.

You can call and collect too on 021 4541286.

4. BRUNCH IS BACK AT THE LIBERTY GRILL

Washington Street’s Liberty Grill are launching a new Brunch to Go, available Thursday to Saturday.

The New England influenced all-day brunch menu features classics like Eggs Benedict, Silver Dollar Pancakes and Brioche French Toast and from 12 midday they’ll add a selection of burgers too (hello Californian Club).

It works like this: Join the virtual queue via the Walk Up App or by phone on 021 4271049 to place your order. You will then see your wait time counting down and the kitchen will text you when your food is ready to collect from the restaurant.

5. ESSENTIAL WORKERS CAN BOOK IN AT THE OLD BANK HOUSE

The Old Bank House in Kinsale is now open for anyone travelling to the seaside town or surrounding areas for essential work. In line with government guidelines, an extensive Covid-19 Safety Charter Programme is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of guests and staff.

Reasonable evidence such as a letter or identification must be provided on arrival and the hotel is only accepting single person occupancy in rooms. The rate is room only (takeaway food is available nearby).

If you’re making plans for the summer, the good news is that The Blue Haven Collection’s cancellation policy is 72 hours, with a ‘Covid clause’ guaranteeing a full refund if you have to cancel because of Covid-19.

Call 021 477 2209 or email info@bluehavenkinsale.com for more information.
