‘No quarantine? No service.’ Kinsale sends a message to rule-breaking tourists

By Yay Cork July 14, 2020July 14, 2020

No quarantine? No service.

That’s the message from worried business owners in Kinsale today, after tourists were found to be ignoring Ireland’s 14-day Covid-19 quarantine rules.

With Ireland one of the few countries that are still accepting American tourists, more than 4,000 people landed here via Dublin airport every day last week. By law, passengers arriving in Ireland from any other country are required to fill in a Covid-19 Passenger Locator Form and asked to restrict their movements for a fortnight.

With reports of tourists flouting the rules all over the country, however, the seaside village of Kinsale is the latest holiday spot to address the situation.

Posting a notice on social media, The Blue Haven Boutique Hotel said that while staff are looking forward to being able to welcome everyone that walks in the door very soon, “for now to keep everyone safe, we request that all guidelines are adhered to prior to us being able to do so.”

Yesterday, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said his advice to tourists arriving this month would be: “Stay in your hotel, or your guest house, now is not the time to be exploring Ireland,”

At the Bullman Bar over in Summercove, a notice has been posted by management.

Any foreign visitors who have not quarantined are asked to stay outside the premises, where a member of staff will take an order for takeaway.

Kinsale Harbour Cruises has also shared a notice asking tourists to refrain from boarding their vessels if they haven’t completed the required quarantine.

“Sorry about this but we do not want to go back to where we were previously,” added Jerome Lordan.
