It’s the little things that count.

Today, a number of Cork emergency services personnel took five minutes out of their busy schedules to make one little boy very happy indeed.

Rian, who hasn’t been in the best of health this week, was treated to a thoughtful drive-by featuring an ambulance, Garda car, fire engines and other official vehicles, sirens blaring, at his home today in honour of his tenth birthday.

Gardaí, Cork City Fire Brigade crew and ambulance drivers gathered (at a safe distance from Rian and each other) to sing a verse of Happy Birthday, while his classmates were able to watch the fun on an iPad.

The fun was organised by Little Blue Heroes, a charitable foundation establish by Gardaí to help seriously ill children and their families.

“We’re not the greatest of singers, but we do our best!” said the person behind the Garda Síochána Twitter account.

“Rian from Cork is 10 yrs old today but hasn’t been feeling well lately. To cheer him up the emergency services gathered at a safe distance outside to sing happy birthday to him. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIAN!”
