Three IndieCork movie premieres have been shortlisted for Oscars

They wowed Cork first.
Now three of the films selected to premiere at the IndieCork film festival have been shortlisted for Oscars in the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday, February 9th, 2020.
Ireland’s festival of independent film is ending 2019 on a high as a trio of their selected movies, all screened to an audience of devoted film buffs in October, appear on the Oscars shortlist.
The nominated films are:
- Corpus Christi, a Polish drama feature by Jan Komasa, premiered at Venice Film Festival and went on to screen at IndieCork. It is shortlisted for the Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film competition.
- Uncle Tomas, Accounting For The Days is an animated short film by Regina Pessoa from Portugal. It won the Best Film award at the renowned Annecy Animation Festival and received its Irish premiere at IndieCork.
- Advocate is a documentary by Rachel Leah Jones and Philippe Bellaiche. It tells the story of Israeli lawyer, Lea Tsemel, who advocates on behalf of Palestinian youths and prisoners. Lea Tsemel visited Cork in 2017 when she spoke at a conference organised in UCC.
“It’s a testament to the role that IndieCork plays in the wider film scene, that three films that were very much discoveries at IndieCork last October have now been recognised by the Academy.” said Festival Co-Director Mick Hannigan.

“We are delighted for the filmmakers concerned, who placed their trust in having their films receive their Irish premiere at IndieCork.”
IndieCork has announced the dates of next year’s festival for October 4th to 11th 2020, again centered at The Gate Cinema. Today marks their call for entries and filmmakers can enter their work at indiecork.com.
