There’s a Paris-style wine festival happening on Barrack Street

By Katie Mythen-Lynch November 8, 2019November 8, 2019

Wine is a serious business in France.

Under French law, the Beaujolais nouveau is released at 12:01 am on the third Thursday of November and welcomed at parties throughout the country to celebrate the first wine of the season.

Now the wine experts at L’Atitude 51 are bringing the tradition to Cork, where a Beaujolais Nouveau Night will take place on Thursday, November 21st, 2019 in the atmospheric surrounding of the 18th Century Apple Market, home to Neighbourfood, on Barrack Street.

Beaujolais nouveau is made from the Gamay noir à Jus blanc grape and the first bottles are uncorked just weeks after the wine’s grapes have been harvested.

A fresh, zesty and fruity wine, it doesn’t improve with age so it’s ideally suited to immediate drinking – absolutely fine with us.

“We’ll have flights of Beaujolais Nouveau from our favourite Beaujolais producers to try – Foillard, Dufaitre, Chanudet, Desvignes and Domaine de la Plaigne, accompanied in true Parisian style by platters of charcuterie and cheese, and we will be teaming up with Ali’s Kitchen to bring you something hot and delicious to keep you warm.” says L’Atitude’s Beverley Mathews.

“It’s a street festival, so expect it to be chilly – dress warm!”

If you’d like to celebrate the arrival of the first wine of the year, tickets are €23.50 and include a flight of Beaujolais, food and plenty of fun from 6pm until 9.30pm. Email info@latitude51.ie to book.
