Arty’s Bar opens in Ballincollig tonight, with some incredible local curios displayed inside

They’ve been making the final preparations all week.
Now Cork publican Benny McCabe and his team are finally ready to unveil the newest addition to the family; Arty’s Bar opens its doors in Ballincollig at 6pm tonight.
Named in honour of Ballincollig’s history as a barracks town (a play on the word ‘artillery’) McCabe’s eclectic style can be seen in every corner of the new layout, which is filled with interesting finds, many items donated by Cork families.
A portrait of the patriot Thomas Davis by Cork man Jim McCarthy looms large on one of the walls, while a Child of Prague statue peeks out from behind a case of Midleton Rare.

Low lighting and upholstered banquette seating give the pub a cosy vibe, with old Murphy’s Stout advertising displayed above chopped wood.
Speaking to Yay Cork ahead of opening night, Benny McCabe said: “We are really grateful for all the stuff being sent in, it will take a while to put it all up.”

“This note is from Mrs O’Mahony, Ruth’s mother, very kindly on loan for the ladies display in memory of her own mother. Please god she will never be short of gossip now, may her memory live on.”
“The Arty’s wood pile is dried and ready, there’s a bit of Sabbath and the odd snug.”

Taking over the premises formerly occupied by Sam’s, the new pub will be dog (and human) friendly:
“There shall be history, horses, hurling, rugby, soccer and more, accompanied by mighty bartenders and banter galore. The odd child or dog will be allowed subject to owners supervision. Pensioners will be delighted with our offers.” reads a Facebook post from management.
“We promise never to play techno, banging house or any musical scutter but will provide accomplished musicians and DJs for you musical enjoyment, we won’t let you down.”
Arty’s will be a welcome addition to the village main street, joining the Tradehouse, the Darby, Hitler’s, The White Horse and Mary O’Connell’s.
