Hands up: we never suspected glitter was bad news for the environment.

There’s no need to panic if you’re prepping for festival season though; Penney’s has just launched a new type of glitter made from responsibly sourced eucalyptus trees.

Yes really; Bioglitter is now being used in Penneys’ PS Festival collection, which includes nine products.

And there’s a really good reason for this; according to scientist, regular glitter should be banned because it’s made with microplastics, which get washed down the drain and is eventually consumed by fish, plankton and birds.

Grim.

If you still need a glitter boost for those long summer nights however, there are six different environmentally sound loose glitter options (€2.50 each) to choose from at Penneys as well as the Glitter Eyes eye shadow palette, which offers 32 colour options for a fiver, and a choice of Unicorn Goo… an intense glittery balm.

The Bioglitter Sparkle range is made of plant material and will naturally biodegrade.
