West Cork has long been a secret escape for celebs.
The chill pace of life, lush scenery and hidden coves make Cork’s coast an ideal choice for those seeking a break from paparazzi and screaming fans.
Now locals are looking forward to bumping into an Oscar-nominated movie star when they pop to the shop for milk – word has it that Saoirse Ronan is the new owner of a picture-perfect waterside cottage in Foilnamuck, Ballydehob.
Rumours are swirling that the ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘Lady Bird’ actress (26) has snapped up the stunning property as a Rebel County retreat, having visited the area with her family last summer.
There’s no denying it would make a peaceful getaway during a very busy year for the star, whose latest movie Ammonite is already creating plenty of Oscars buzz.
The stone two-bedroom cottage boasts underfloor heating (ideal for winter visits), a cosy wood-burning stove, a claw-foot tub for soaking in and a sun-drenched breakfast room with views of the surrounding countryside and the sea.
The 1.25-acre plot sweeps down to a rocky beach, just three miles south of Ballydehob village.
The new property owners will have use of a private pier, so there’ll be amply opportunity for swimming and watersports away from the prying eyes of the public. There’s a stone outbuilding too, which could easily be converted into a guest suite for visiting mates.
Last year, Ronan sold Pine Lodge, her Greystones mansion, for a cool €1.6 million, having purchased it for €1.4m in 2017 and redecorating every room in her own chic, eclectic style from floor to ceiling.
