WEATHER: Met Éireann has put a fresh Status Yellow alert in place until Friday morning

By Yay Cork January 7, 2021January 7, 2021

It’s safest to be indoors after 5pm.

That’s according to Met Éireann, which has issued another Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland today as temperatures plummet once again.

According to the national forecaster, it will be “cold tonight with minimum temperatures of zero to minus 4 degrees.”

If you do need to venture out for any reason, motorists and pedestrians have been warned that roads will be dangerous, with ice forming on untreated surfaces.

“Be careful on roads and footpaths and if you need to drive, do so with utmost caution.” Cork County Council said in a tweet.

The latest Status Yellow alert is valid from 5pm on Thursday, January 7th until 11am on Friday, January 8th.

There will be widespread frost and ice to start on Friday with temperatures struggling to reach afternoon highs of just 0 to 3 degrees.

“There’ll be good sunny spells for the day but the odd wintry flurry is possible,” said a forecaster, adding that a severe frost will set in quickly after dark on Friday evening.

Friday night will be predominantly dry with clear skies and just a few patches of freezing fog, with minimum temperatures of -7 to -3 degrees.
