VeganKO just opened their first city store (get your loaded fries on Kyle Street)

It all started in a kiosk at Drew’s Petrol Station.
Now, despite the challenges of opening a new business during a pandemic, Nino Huzjak and Martina Ratkovic, the plant-based pair behind the vegan fast-food brand VeganKO have opened their first bricks and mortar store on Kyle Street.
The Douglas-based couple, who moved to Cork from Croatia five years ago, quickly built a reputation for dishing up the indulgent fast food treats we all know and love (think burgers, kebabs, cheesy fries, and nuggets) but without any animal-derived ingredients.
With their customer base increasing, the business quickly outgrew the tiny kiosk at Drew’s in Turner’s Cross.
Now you can swing by the new city store to try customer favourites such as BacunKO burger (vegan beef, vegan bacon, ketchup, lettuce, gherkins, sweet grilled onions, and mustard) and the juicy Beyond Black burger, which comes on a trendy charcoal-infused bun.

The kebabs are a hefty hunger-buster – stuffed to bursting with crunchy veggies, crisp fries, hummus, and tasty meat alternatives.
Then there are the loaded fries with garlic and vegan cheese or the Mexican Fries, oozing with beans and pickled jalapenos. Don’t leave without a vegan double chocolate chip cookie.
Even the drinks are kind; VeganKO stock Fairtrade and organic Karma Drinks – for every can sold the company gives back to farmers and communities.

Numbers are limited inside the store for now but Nino and Martina have plans to offer more seating once the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
VeganKO is open at 18 Kyle Street (just off North Main Street) from 12pm until 10pm
