This is what the new Rory Gallagher coin will look like

‘If you got money in the bank,
Don’t let your woman draw it out,
Cause she’ll take all your money…and,
Then she’ll kick you out.’
So sang Cork music legend Rory Gallagher in ‘Banker’s Blues’ in 1973.
Now however, Gallagher fans of both genders will be drawing out a little cash to spend on a special coin commemorating the 70th anniversary of the star’s birth in 1948.
The €15 coin is the first issue in a new series highlighting modern Irish musicians.
Designed by Michael Guilfoyle, only 3,000 of this design will be created, making them highly collectible and hot property amongst Gallagher fans all over the world.
Two other coins will be issued to honour Phil Lynott (of Thin Lizzy) in 2019 and Luke Kelly (of the Dubliners) in 2020.
Rory’s commemorative coin, which shows him playing his Fender Stratocaster, will be officially launched by President Michael D. Higgins, in Áras an Uachtaráin, later this month.
