This art show celebrates Cork’s iconic (soon-to-be-demolished) R&H Hall

The experts have decided it can’t be saved.
But one Cork artist has set out to preserve the memory of Cork’s iconic R & H Hall building before it disappears forever.
The grain silos, which have loomed large over the Docklands since the early 1900s, are set to be demolished after developers O’Callaghan Properties found that they could not safely be included in a new design for the area.
Now local artist Celina Buckley has used the building to inspire her first solo exhibition in Cork, showing a collection of fine art collages, mostly created on location over a period of two years.

Featuring various spots around the Marina, Ballintemple and Blackrock, from Páirc Uí Chaoimh to Guji Coffee at the Marina Market, Buckley’s charming collage scenes are built using print-making techniques she learned in the print room at Cambridge School of Art.
The exhibition ‘DOCKLANDS’ will open at Spaces, 1 Horgan’s Quay, Cork City on November 1st, running for four days.
“Art must defend the uncertain. Nothing is a finished project, always a beginning,” she said.

“It would be wonderful if a space for artists existed on the Cork Docklands site which is due to be redeveloped very soon. In Dublin, the Port Company and the Arts Council are working together to explore the options of creating an Artists’ Campus within the Odlums Flour Mills site.”
No booking is required to view the exhibition during the following opening hours:
● Tuesday, November 1st, 11am – 4pm
● Wednesday, November 2nd, 11am – 4pm
● Thursday, November 3rd, 11am- 4pm
● Friday, November 4th, 11am – 4pm
Celina will be on-site during the times above to chat with people about her work.
