These hidden West Cork pizza spots are all exceptional (and they’re calling your name)

It’s practically an Irish staple at this point.
We’ve come a long way from the days when the fanciest pizza you could get was a Chicago Town from The Big Dunnes.
These days, the refined Irish palette craves woodfire crusts and the finest, handpicked fresh ingredients straight from the garden. We even know about different types of cheeses.
And pizza has not lost its popularity in the years since Dr Oetker reigned supreme, especially in Cork where the casual dining scene is thriving and pizza is the main item on the menu in over 20 pie parlours around the city.
But as you move down the coastline, there are more benefits to a pizza dinner than just a delicious meal. Here are our top spots to grab a pizza in West Cork, where they’re served with some fabulous scenery and country vibes.
1. Wandering Wagon Pizza
All those who are wander are not lost… some are just looking for pizza. And luckily for us, the crew at Wandering Wagon Pizza tends to be in one glorious spot these days, on top of Fishers Cross overlooking the Red Strand.
Head here on a Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday after a dip and sauna session with West Cork Sauna just five minutes down the road, or grab your slices and head into O’Donovan’s bar for a pint.

2. Pizza Base
Owner and pizza enthusiast Maarten La Haye started dishing out slices back in 2009 and since then, he has watched the scene evolve and grow. If you’re up for a short stroll, Pizza Base is parked up and delving out artisan wood-fired pizza outside Quills in Glengarriff every week from 11am-5pm.
Once it’s cooked to perfection, take your box and potter along to the Blue Pool, a magical harbour hidden in the middle of Glengarriff where the sea meets the river. Sit here and enjoy your pizza with views of the rocky inlet, surrounded by lush vegetation.
Note: opening hours may vary, so keep an eye on their socials for up-to-date information.

3. Dunmore House Hotel
If you’re back down the Ardfield way and fancy yourself an Italian pie with an Irish twist, head to the Sea Terrace at Dunmore House Hotel for some of chef Paolo’s Boatshed Pizza and unbelievable views of Clonakilty Bay.
Stay on for a few glasses of vino if you’re not driving- they have a fine selection of wines that you can pair with your boujee pizza.

4. Pizza Rustika
As soon as that pizza base hits their lips, Pizza Rustika customers become loyal customers for life. If you’re looking to head to Kinsale on a fine day but can’t find parking, make your way towards the bridge and order yourself a pizza.
The Neopolitan crust is fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, fired to perfection and topped with mouthwatering but simple ingredients. “Food lovers beware,” warns Pizza Rustika “… you’re in for a tasty surprise”.

5. Pizzheiria
Pizzheiria is perched on the tip of Heir Island, outside Baltimore facing west,; one of the more remote pizza spots you can find in Cork.
You can sit here on the edge of the world, with your pizza and desserts and watch the glorious sun go down. We recommend the sharing pizzas to start off. To avoid disappointment and major delays, make sure to book your spot before taking the trip by using the booking portal here.
