Looking for an excuse to get out of the house this weekend?
A brand new walking and cycling route has just opened at Ballincollig’s Regional Park, near the former Gunpowder Mills.
Open from 9am until 9pm throughout August, the new route runs along the eastern side of the 20-acre park, taking visitors through the historic Gunpowder Mills complex.
Ideal for dog walkers, the path runs along the riverside walk and past the Fionn Laoi estate.
It’s fully covered in tarmac too, which is handy for avoiding muddy boots and buggy wheels if it’s been raining.
The project, which involved fencing along the river edge, installing railings along deep culverts, bridge works and landscaping, is the final one carried out by Cork County Council in Ballincollig, which transferred into the jurisdiction of Cork City Council after the city boundary extension in May.
