The Christmas Swim is being reimagined this year (but you can still take a dip for charity)

It’s been a Cork tradition for eight years.
When Danny Crowley passed away after a long battle with leukaemia in 2013, his friends and family set up the Danny Crowley Christmas Swim as a way to remember him while raising funds for the Mercy Kids & Teens Appeal.
This year, with Covid-19 making the usual Christmas morning event impossible, the organisers have come up with a clever way to ensure the charity doesn’t miss out.
The annual swim would normally see more than 400 swimmers taking the plunge at Myrtleville beach but this year, swimmers are invited to enjoy a frosty dip in their own time between December 17th and December 24th, 2020 and donate online here.
You can share your teeth-chattering videos and photos with the event Instagram account @thedannycrowleyswim.

Brave volunteers have already raised more than €8,000 for the Mercy Hospital Children’s Leukaemia unit, where Danny spent a significant amount of time when having treatment in 2013.
The unit also provides a Paediatric Oncology Outreach Service (POONS) which enables children to receive treatment from the comfort of their own home.
